Senior Specialist, Cloud Application Engineer

Overview

• Design, develop, and maintain web applications using React (frontend) and .NET Core API (backend), ensuring high performance and scalability.
• Build and maintain data models, schemas, and stored procedures in SQL Azure; design and manage collections in Azure Cosmos DB.
• Design and implement integrations between internal systems and third-party platforms using REST APIs, Azure Service Bus, and Azure API Management.
• Deploy, configure, and manage application infrastructure on Microsoft Azure (App Services, Azure Functions, Azure Container Apps, etc.).
• Contribute to architecture reviews and technical design decisions; participate in sprint planning and agile ceremonies.
• Monitor application performance, investigate and resolve production issues, and implement preventive improvements.
• Maintain and contribute to CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps; follow DevOps and Infrastructure-as-Code best practices.
• Apply security best practices across all application layers including authentication, authorization, and data protection.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, design, operations, and vendors to deliver high-quality solutions.
• Full-Stack Development – Proficiency in React and .NET Core for building responsive, scalable enterprise applications.
• Cloud Engineering – Hands-on experience designing, deploying, and operating solutions on Microsoft Azure.
• Data Management – Experience with relational (SQL Azure) and NoSQL (Cosmos DB) databases in production environments.
• Integration Design – Ability to design and implement system integrations using REST APIs, messaging, and event-driven patterns.
• DevOps Practices – Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Azure DevOps, and infrastructure-as-code (Bicep/ARM templates).
• Security Awareness – Understanding of cloud security principles, identity management (Azure AD/Entra ID), and secure coding practices.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Minimum 3–5 years of software development experience in a professional environment.
• Proven hands-on experience with React and .NET Core API development.
• Demonstrated experience building and deploying solutions on Microsoft Azure.
• Experience working with SQL Azure (relational) and Azure Cosmos DB (NoSQL) in production systems.
• Experience with RESTful API design, system integration patterns, and enterprise application development.
• Microsoft Azure certification (e.g., AZ-204 Developer Associate or AZ-900) preferred.
• Deep knowledge of React component architecture, hooks, and state management (Redux / Context API).
• Strong knowledge of .NET Core, C#, and RESTful API design principles including authentication (OAuth 2.0, Azure AD/Entra ID).
• Knowledge of Azure PaaS services: App Services, Azure Functions, Service Bus, API Management, Key Vault, and Azure Monitor.
• Understanding of database design, query optimization, and data modeling in both SQL Azure and Cosmos DB.
• Familiarity with microservices architecture, event-driven design, and enterprise integration patterns
• Proficient in React, TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3.
• Proficient in C# and .NET Core, including Entity Framework Core and middleware patterns.
• Skilled in Azure portal, Azure DevOps, and infrastructure-as-code tooling (Bicep / ARM templates).
• Ability to write clean, maintainable, testable code and conduct meaningful code reviews.
• Strong debugging, root-cause analysis, and performance-tuning skills.
• Must have: Experience with agentic coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Codex, Claude Code, Cursor) for AI-assisted software development.
• Ability to work effectively in cross-functional, agile delivery teams and take end-to-end ownership of features.
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and deliver within sprint timelines.
• Strong communication skills – able to articulate technical decisions clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

Purpose

The Cloud Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining enterprise applications and integrations within IHS’s digital ecosystem. Reporting to the Senior Manager, EA, the role involves full-stack development using React and .NET Core APIs, cloud-native data management with SQL Azure and Azure Cosmos DB, and deployment and operations on Microsoft Azure infrastructure.
